Sunken Temple

On seeing one of the temples on the banks of the Hampi River, the idea for this piece came to me. This particular temple, they said, was sinking. I rendered the drawing in charcoal. I also incorporated some calligraphy by including the ancient script that was engraved on the temple stone walls. I then placed the drawing in a water tank with coins and lit floating candles. I played music from Claude Debussy’s La Cathedrale Engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral). I hoped that this would help create a clear visual connection between the song and my piece.
